HIMB/CRL METABOLOMICS POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER ID# 222603

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology (HIMB) Coral Resilience Laboratory (CRL), located in Kneohe, Hawaii. This position will be based full-time at the Quinn Labs at Michigan State University and involve periodic travel to the Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $3,822/Mon.

DUTIES: The Coral Resilience Lab (CRL) is committed to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in science. We believe an inclusive workplace fosters better research and strengthens community. Designs, coordinates, and conducts research on metabolite and microbial biomarkers of thermal tolerance in corals. Includes experimental design and execution, data collection and analysis. Develops tools to be applied for coral restoration and conservation and presents research results at scientific conferences, publishes scientific products, and contributes to grant writing. Contributes to mentorship of undergraduate students and a positive, productive, inclusive work environment. Assists with outreach and education activities as well as other laboratory and administrative needs.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/TRAINING PhD from an accredited college or university in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbial Biology or related field.
EXPERIENCE Three to five (3-5) years of experience with experimental, observational or field biology. Experience includes at least two (2) years of collecting and analyzing metabolomics data.
KNOWLEDGE Strong understanding of biochemistry, metabolomics, cell and molecular biology. Strong knowledge of bioinformatics, with a focus on metabolomic network analysis. Strong knowledge of experimental design, multivariate statistics and data analyses in R.
ABILITIES & SKILLS Ability to generate LC-MS/MS and GC-MS metabolomics data. Ability to complete library prep, sequencing and analysis of microbial samples. Ability to analyze multivariate and time-series data. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills. Ability to communicate effectively and coordinate within an interdisciplinary research team. Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Title IX training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the UH Laboratory Safety training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the Environmental & Health Safety Office (EHSO) Hazardous Waste Generator training within twelve (12) months from date of hire. Must be able to complete the Office of Research Compliance (ORC) General Biosafety training within twelve (12) months from date of hire.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with coral reef biology. Experience with Machine Learning. Experience linking Native Hawaiian culture and scientific research. Training related to student mentorship.
