SBDC CENTER DIRECTOR ID# 221263.

Hawaii Small Business Development Center Network. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Hawaii Small Business Development Center Network (SBDC), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY: Salary commensurate with qualifications.

DUTIES: Administers the programmatic operations at the Oahu SBDC. Responsible at the Center level for implementation, deployment, and management of activities designed to carry out the Hawaii SBDC Network strategies. Annually participates in a negotiation process for allocation of network goals to their Center. Network goals include both sponsor-required goals and internally generated goals and metrics. Evaluates Center operations and program effectiveness, and works with state leadership to develop new approaches and processes to meet the needs of the local small business community. Provides business counseling services and business advice to small business clients and entrepreneurs in direct one-on-one sessions. Drives to attend meetings with clients. Directs, supervises, and assigns work to SBDC staff. Monitors professional staff development to accomplish defined certifications. Develops curricula and conducts training sessions and events for small business owners and clients. Periodically assesses Center performance and makes recommendations to leadership on how improvements can be achieved. Engages in advocacy for small business interests and community development by serving on boards, committees, task forces and other public/private sector, community groups. Meets regularly with area economic development organizations and small business groups to promote the Hawaii SBDC, support the local business environment, and serve as an advocate for the small business sector. Develops and maintains working relationships with elected officials and personnel in county, State and Federal agencies, as well as Chambers of Commerce, business organizations, economic development agencies, lending institutions and program funding sources.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Business or a related field. (Bachelors Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university and at least five (5) additional years of experience in business management may substitute for a Masters Degree.). EXPERIENCE: Two to four (2-4) years of experience in business assistance agency consulting, small business management, or managerial business consulting. Experience must include at least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory/managerial role. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Thorough knowledge of the principles and requirements of starting and operating a successful small business in Hawaii. Knowledge of business conditions in Hawaii. Knowledge of the counseling process. Knowledge of management principles including, but not limited to, supervising/developing employees, EEO, workplace safety, corrective/disciplinary actions, and administration of policies and procedures. Teaching, training, and public speaking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including how to write high quality business plans. Personal computer experience, including spreadsheet, word processing, and data management software. Ability to establish work standards/expectations and clear direction to meet goals and objectives of ongoing work for direct reports. Ability to provide guidance, motivate, and engage direct reports through effective communication and leadership. Ability to assign work and to establish work rules and acceptable levels of quality and quantity of work. Ability to review work and evaluate performance, and develop required job competencies of direct reports. Must possess a valid drivers license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal drivers insurance equivalent to Hawaiis No-Fault Drivers Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.).

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience as a consultant in a Small Business Development Center or similar assistance program. Previous ownership/management of a small business with significant sales. Experience in working effectively with a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.
